What is Weight loss Coaching?
If the idea of coaching is new to you and you’re not sure what to expect, the briefest of descriptions is that it takes where you are right now as the starting point, looks at where you eventually want to be (your ultimate weight), and helps you get there. It’s very much a forward moving and positive process.
With the countless number of weight loss coaches out there, there are probably as many types of coaching as there are coaches. I've even seen people who are just selling diet pills call themselves coaches, so it's definitely buyer beware! Look to see if the person calling themselves a coach has any qualifications, or have they just nominated themselves as coaches!
My qualifcation in coaching was in the UK and I know that differs from coaching in the US for instance. Uk coaches generally don't advise - they have the skills to enable the client to come up with their own solutions. This is fundamentally different to the type of coaching where the coach imparts their knowledge for the client to utilise. I'm not making a judgement on which is right, just pointing out the differences.
And I’m not a qualified weight loss expert but I am a coaching expert and I’ve used the coaching model on weight loss for a number of years with a lot of success.
I liken it to a Hypnotherapist. Many good hypnotherapists have great success with weight loss but they’re no more expert at weight loss than I am but they’re expert at being hypnotherapists and applying that skill to weight loss as they would to fears, phobias, addictions or whatever else comes their way. That’s how it is with coaching.
So, the form of weight loss coaching I provide, isn’t a diet, a fitness regime or a medical intervention. It's a support to whatever means of losing weight you adopt and it gives you the proper tools for giving your weight loss programme the best possible shot by preparing you mentally, getting you organised in what you want to achieve and how you're going to do it.
Weight loss coaching in this form, enables you to not only lose the weight but gives you the tools to keep it off forever.

Is New Year a good time to lose weight?
It seems like the World and her husband (I know which side my bread's buttered!) start a diet in January as just one of many well intentioned resolutions and like a lot of those resolutions, come the end of January the good intentions have gone by the wayside and normal life resumes.
Does that make starting a weight loss effort in January a bad thing?
I have two views on this. Firstly, any attempt at attempting change is a good thing and better than not trying at all but my belief is, that if you're serious about change and losing weight, then you must give it the best shot you've got!
So what are the pros and cons?
As stated above, any attempt is better than none but achieving anything is about your determination to succeed and how motivated you are to achieve it and if you're just lumping your weight loss effort in with the other resolutions because that's what you do at this time of year, then your motivation really is lacking and you're setting yourself up to fail.
However, if you've been wanting to do something about your weight for some time and have focussed on the New Year as a good time to start with Christmas and all temptations out of the way, then that's a positive and there's no reason why you shouldn't succeed. It's all about your motivation and determination to make it work.
So if you're planning a New Year weight loss attempt, check your reason for doing it. It will make the difference between dropping out in January or going on to achieve your weight loss goals!
Good luck over the holidays!
